We have a fun family tradition in our house...making candy turkeys! After seeing some photos on Pinterest, it reminded me that we used to make these little treats with Mom when we were kids and we would pass them around to the neighbors.
This year I thought it would be fun to bring the ingredients to our Thanksgiving and make turkeys together as a family after dinner.
I brought: Keebler Fudge Cookies, Hershey kisses, candy corn, Chocolate frosting and caramels.
The first step is to unwrap all those caramels and slightly melt them in the microwave. We did 15 seconds, but had to wait for a few minutes because they were so hot that we melted the chocolate kisses! It works best to make the tail first by attaching the candy corns to the cookie with frosting. Then squish the caramel to make a nice body, set it onto the hershey kiss and glue it to the tail so that it stands up straight. The last step is attaching the candy corn as a head.
I've seen fancier turkeys on Pinterest, but these are easy and fun to make with the family. The guys liked to do more eating than crafting, but that's okay too. :)
