No.13 The Little Things

One thing I love about spring, is getting out for some fresh air! When it's finally warm enough to get outside without a coat on. This weekend the weather has been cooperating so well! It's been warm and sunny, I even busted out my flipflops and some cute flats. My mom and I went for a nice long walk at Riverside State Park, aka Bowl & Pitcher. We walked, listened to the river rushing by, watched the kayakers and rafters going by and reveled in the smell of fresh pine needles. There is just something about fresh air and a little sunshine that is good for you!

Photo Friday: Pattern

This week we focused our photos on something patterned. I struggled a little with this prompt because I realize that I'm really surrounded with lots of solids! My house decor and clothing style is a bit plain and boring. Maybe it's time that I change that. I'm thinking of getting myself some fun polka dots...fast!

So today my photo is of my favorite bag, which at least is striped. That's a pattern, right?? I bought this bag last summer (here) to go to Europe, but its actually a diaper bag! That should come in handy in a few months. Sorry for the wrinkles! I didn't do any pre-photo ironing! :)

Here is Renae's photo - My photo this week is of my favorite quilt which was a present from Joe's mother. I love the simplicity of the pattern, just teal shapes on a white background. I think it makes all the other intricate little details just pop!

My photo is of a blanket I've been (slowly) working on. I guess this is probably my project for March.. Its almost done! I'm LOVING the softness of this yarn as a blanket!

Scrapbooking Mojo

Yes, its back!! I know that most people that read this blog may not scrapbook. I also do not really consider this a scrapbooking blog. Yet this is one of my most favorite hobbies, so I like to share a page I make every so often. I didn't scrapbook for almost three months, so it was really fun to get messy with my supplies and make a few pages! I made two pages over the weekend that I will share here.

First Page: A little trip to Vancouver

One of my favorite techniques is to cut small strips of paper and layer them together. I also used some washi tape and baker's twine as another layer. On this page I did some masking and inking with the chevron mask that I got in my most recent Studio Calico kit. I really loved using it! Its my first mask and now I want more! I stamped the city scene with stazon ink, another stamp I got in an SC kit.
Sometimes I run out of letter stickers, so then I just add one from a different alphabet. This white alphabet from American Crafts has been one of my favorites for a long time. I am always running out of vowels, but somehow still find a way to use them. I always like mixing up my titles with several different fonts...and a little bit of random punctuation doesn't always hurt. :)

Second Page: Thanksgiving 2012
Just like in the last page, I placed two 4x6 photographs together and added everything around that. This is a technique that I do over and over again because I love using 4x6 photos on my pages.
Another favorite technique is using different pens to doodle on my pages. I used two colors of brown to draw tiny little circles as borders.
Although most of these items on both of these pages come from recent Studio Calico kits (you can see how I unloaded three of them on my desk in this post), I wanted to just highlight some of my favorite products! The Amy Tangerine papers that I used on this second page, were some of my favs. Here is one paper and here is another.

Thanks for taking a look! Hopefully now that I am feeling almost better (had a little nausea relapse this week) maybe I will be scrapbooking even more.

Mexico!!!

In these photos you will see not much else besides blue sky and ocean! That's about all we saw for a week when we were in Cabo in the second week in March. It was by far the most relaxing vacation we have EVER been on, really the perfect babymoon! I will share several photos with you here, but the reality is, I took very few photos on this trip compared to what I usually take. I was just too busy lying in the sand in the sunshine! I left my camera in the hotel room almost every day!

Probably one of our favorite adventures away from the resort was the rickety city bus into Cabo san Lucas. We were pretty sure it would fall apart on that windy road into town. Quite the little thrill!

Once we were there we took a boat ride out into the harbor and explored the amazing rock formations that surround Cabo san Lucas. Once you pass these large rocks you are at the Southern most tip of Baja California and into the Pacific Ocean! On the way back, the driver dropped us off for an hour at Lover's Beach, where we swam and enjoyed the scenery.


Once back from our little boat ride we stopped in town for some lunch and Margaritas before heading back to the hotel.

The last couple of photos were taken on our last day of vacation when we decided to walk three miles along to beach so we could see the Ironman swimming! Getting there was quite the adventure (full of crazy stairs) and we loved seeing all the amazing beach villas. Hoping we will be rich enough one day to own one of those! Watching Ironman was awesome for us because Matt will be doing his first one in June. On the way back to the Hotel we walked along the highway and watched the bikers (and worked on our tans!) It was an awesome last day, but we were so sad to leave!! It's hard being back in rainy Seattle, but I am so glad we got this one week vacation to Paradise! So, so thankful! Photo Walk: In the Conservatory

Mrs. Kim in the Conservatory with a Camera ... oh wait, this isn't "Clue", this is about a photo walk. It's been awhile since I used Elise's idea for a photo walk. It's a photo prompt - you pick a theme to take pictures of on a walk. Simple and fun. I went up to the conservatory at Manito Park today and thought it would be fun to share pictures of some of the cool plants they have up there. I seem to have plant fever recently, it's taking all my effort to not go buy up a bunch of different varieties. I'm still testing out my green thumb (or lack thereof) on my air plants and a "Bob and Bob", my new houseplants! Although, I may cave and buy a snake plant, they are so cool and apparently fairly easy to care for!
