So a few weekends ago, I was browsing the vastness of the internet when I stumbled across Manda Townsend's blog. I love her style of photography, and boy does she have some adorable cats (and kids)!
I also stumbled across her instructions for packing tape transfer art. There are more examples of her work here. Every once in awhile you run across one of those projects that you literally have to try right away! This was one of them, as soon as I read over the instructions, I had to go try it! Since we have been moving constantly (or so it seems!) I knew right where the packing tape was.
All you need for this little project is packing tape, some old magazines, some paper and a glue stick. I just followed the instructions in her post. The only trouble I ran across was pulling the tape back off - except for one strip, the strips didn't look transparent - it just looked like paper stuck to tape. So after some googling, I read that you could also submerge it in warm water, and rub the paper off the back and the print would be left on the other side.
And that worked. So if you have a similar problem with the paper sticking too much, try filling a bowl with warm water and placing your strips of packing tape in it for a few minutes before rubbing the paper off.
For my project, I picked out fall inspired images, glued them vertically on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper and then wrote right on top of the images and the blank spot I left in the middle with a sharpie.
I loved the way it turned out! I'm planning to hang it above my desk in my new office soon. Below is a close up look, you can see the transparent / grainy quality a little better.
