Last year, I tried the One Little Word challenge from Ali Edwards and I really enjoyed it. So this year, I thought I would try it again - the word I choose for this year is unplug. It's not a very graceful or pretty word to be sure but that's not exactly the point anyways.
This year I want to be more intentional about turning the 'screens' off and doing stuff instead (I already have a whole list of ideas!). It's so easy to get sucked in to all the screens around us and get distracted from the people and things going on around us. I don't want life to fly by and not have a chance to stop and enjoy it because I'm so caught up in this virtual reality that we call technology. Don't get me wrong... I enjoy blogging, my iPhone and watching shows as much as the next girl. But there is so much more in life to enjoy that I don't want to miss out on!
At any rate, I'm not going off-grid or anything too crazy. I'm definitely keeping my smart phone (I'm still addicted to instagram). But I believe technology should be a tool that we can use and not something that controls us. I need practice in balancing my time, and learning to exercise some self control when it comes to this stuff. I'd like to take a bit of my life back - read books before going to bed instead of checking my phone, go out for coffee instead of over-zealously catching up on someone's blog that I don't know in real life, make some of those things I've pinned on Pinterest... just learn to have a balance again.
I don't know if that makes much sense, sometimes I have a little difficulty getting my thoughts out concisely but hopefully you get the jist of it. And hopefully lots of real life stuff will translate into fun blog content for you guys! Here's to make 2014 the best year yet!
