This has been a long time in coming... but we've finally joined the rest of Seattle and signed up for a veggie box! Jenn has done this before and so have some of our other friends, and they all seem to love it. We had talked about it last fall when we started eating a lot more vegetables but decided it didn't seem worth it at the time. We just ended up printing out the seasonal veggie list with us to take to the grocery store.
But now with summer in full swing, we've both been really busy and healthy eating has gotten set on the back burner. We figured if a box of vegetables showed up on our doorstep every week (or two) we would eat it! I'm curious to see how it goes. We decided to start with an every two week delivery from New Roots. After we figure out how fast we can go through a whole box, we can bump it up to every week if we want.
I'm excited to try new seasonal recipes, and also try new fruits and vegetables. I tried my first pluot yesterday and it was pretty good! I'm also curious to see if we can tell a difference in flavor with locally grown food. In theory it seems it would taste better. And lastly, I'm curious to see what happens to our food bill. I'm hoping since we will only have to grocery shop for coffee, meat, dairy and bread it will go down due to less trips... but maybe that is wishful thinking. We'll see soon enough.
Have any of you tried a veggie box before? I'd love to know what you thought about it! I'm hoping to share updates with what we find and some yummy seasonal recipes too!
